Hi, I'm Caroline.
Attending therapy can be daunting, however I will do my best to make you feel comfortable so you can engage more effectively in the process.
I am passionate about helping clients to resolve problems that are impacting on their mental health and quality-of-life.
Being qualified and accredited in CBT, EMDR and IPT therapy and a trained person-centred counsellor with extensive experience dealing with complex issues within the NHS and my private practice, enables me to provide the most appropriate/suitable evidence-based therapies. In line with the NICE guidelines, which refers to NHS recommendations for treatment for mental health.
Working in a direct but empathic, down-to-earth manner, I strive to achieve the best possible outcomes for my clients. Having also having been a registered general nurse, this gives me insight into the complexities and impact on mental health of pain and symptoms associated with medical conditions.
I am registered with and provide services for BUPA, AXA, Aviva, Nuffield, Vita health and other organizations including the Royal Marines charity. I keep my skills up to date and maintain my annual accreditation with extensive continuous professional development.
I have considerable experience dealing with complex cases within the NHS and in my private practice. This includes extensive work relating to a wide range of trauma including road traffic accidents, sexual assault, complex bereavement, childhood and adult physical, sexual and emotional abuse. Also, a wide range of anxiety disorders, depression and PTSD.
I deliver therapy in an empathic and non-judgmental way. Working in a confidential, safe space, helps you to reflect on your difficulties, discuss your problems and find solutions. Aiming to improve your quality of life.
You may have clear ideas of what you hope to achieve through therapy, or you may not know what you want or what is possible. We will explore this, and I will endeavour to work towards the best possible outcome for you. My ability to offer a wide range of proven therapies, means that I can offer professional advice as to the most suitable and effective therapy for the problems you are presenting with. This can be delivered either face-to-face, online or by telephone.
If I do not think therapy is appropriate for you at this time, I can make recommendations and give you advice, as to what might be the more suitable options
I can also provide counselling, which can also be helpful for a range of mental health issues, difficulties with life stages and experiences with adverse life events.
Cognitive behavioural therapy can be helpful for the following problems: depression and a range of anxiety disorders for example, generalized anxiety, health anxiety, OCD, binge eating disorder, low self- esteem and sleep problems. Body dysmorphic disorder, panic disorder, social phobia, general phobias and PTSD
IPT can be utilized for treatment of depression, which is associated with unresolved grief/bereavement, clients experiencing problems with any form of adjustment/change for example changes in employment, experiencing health problems and adjusting to this, which also includes the menopause and other life stages. Clients experiencing relationship difficulties which may include forming and sustaining friendships, relationship difficulties with their partner, experiencing conflict, coming to terms with the ending of a relationship. IPT can also be useful for clients who find that they can often embark on forming relationships with others, which may be unhelpful. For further information on IPT therapy, please refer to the IPT UK website.
EMDR therapy is currently recommended by the NICE guidelines for treatment of PTSD.
EMDR can also be helpful for the treatment of depression, anxiety, panic attacks, stress, phobias, sleep problems, complicated grief, low self-esteem and performance anxiety. There is also an increasing evidence base for the use of EMDR with OCD.
